The Fuck-it 50s
No Need for Validation Here.
I began writing this… whatever this is… at 50.
Recently, I saw this GQ article about Will Smith.
For decades, he worked tirelessly to make himself the biggest movie star on the planet. Then he hit his “fuck-it 50s” and everything changed. Now, as he prepares a raw new memoir and a pair of films tackling racial themes, Will Smith is ready to speak his truth.
He also went to Peru, and participated in over a dozen ayahuasca ceremonies.
There’s something about aging, experience, and psychedelics that makes it so that things that used to be a big deal simply don’t seem to matter any more. What other people do and think doesn’t affect us, unless we allow it to. Getting “triggered” is a sign of emotional immaturity or unresolved trauma.
Ego death is a thing, but it’s not a permanent state. Letting go of the guilt and shame around ego, fears, and desires is part of the process, but ego, fears, and desires are part of life.
So… Fuck it.
But don’t forget to live.
