Organizing the Digital Self
Clubhouse has gotten me to organize my Digital Self. It seems like the latest iteration of our avatars on the Open Metaverse may sit on Clubhouse - perhaps less is more. Because in VR, the avatars feel like they sort of detract from the presence of the interaction… It’ll be interesting to see where this goes.
I’ve been hopping in and out of a room that’s been going for close to 24 hours about “Semiconductors, 5G, and Supply Chain Competition” in:
WAR, DEFENSE, AND INTERNATIONAL SECURITY
I’ve learned more about semiconductors, geopolitics, and technology from that room than from all other sources in the past year.
On Clubhouse, I’ve randomly reconnected with many friends and connections I haven’t spoken to in years and been able to explore deep topics that are creating a richness in perspectives that are guiding my current strategies and life direction.
I also made a new Now Page, inspired by Devek Sivers.
What I'm Doing Now
(This is a Now Page, and if you have your own site, you should make one, too.)
I'm currently visiting Taipei, Taiwan and will be in town until at least March 26, 2021. My eldest daughter Katie and I are here to spend some quality time with my parents, and I'm also connecting with the cryptocurrency, technology, and mental health communities while I'm here.
I've been consistently writing on Substack since my 50th birthday in 2020. I joined Clubhouse on January 9, 2021, and I'm not gonna lie, it's been a bit addicting. So far, I've hosted a room with MAPS on Asian Americans and Psychedelics, and hosted a room on Civilization 2.0, the Future of Society and Self with Dr. Heidi Forbes Öste.
Serving & leading software teams that are developing parts of the Open Metaverse stack.

Working on projects in XR and supporting clinical research for psilocybin for pain treatment as a Visiting Scholar at the Arthur C. Clarke Center for Human Imagination at UC San Diego.
Mentoring startups at Chinaccelerator/MOX.
I first heard of Clubhouse couple hours ago. Was hosting a people-to-people conversation between Mainland Chinese and Taiwanese...apparently several thousand people. Now your post - all in one day. Something going on here.
